Looking for contemporary garage door inspiration? Let us help!

Contemporary House

We’re all looking for a house style that reflects who we are, one where we feel at home. Over the last few years, garage door manufacturers have been rethinking the look of garage doors and have come up with several new designs. One of the leaders in this is Garaga, a company that now has 24 different models, with 7 of them in the contemporary or modern category.

Do you think both contemporary and modern garage doors fit with all architectural styles? Not that much. Why? Below some tips to help you understand the different styles on the garage door market, but also if a contemporary design is the right choice for your home.

What do we mean when we say modern or contemporary home styles?

We can recognize what are called contemporary or modern homes by their straight, clean lines. Frequently they have roofs that are flat or have 4 equal slopes. The exteriors are a mixture of wood and manufactured stone sidings. Contemporary homes can also be identified by the use of dark exterior colors, like black and mocha brown. Another distinguishing feature is large openings both for windows and patio doors.

We often hear the name of Frank Lloyd Wright, the renowned architect, mentioned when speaking about modern and contemporary style houses. His Usonian design was the inspiration for the “ranch” style popularized in the 1950s.

So, what garage door styles does Garaga offer?

When looking for those clean, straight lines, both horizontal and vertical, characterizing modern or contemporary homes, GARAGA has garage doors that mirror those traits. Here are the doors in that category:

  • The VOG: with a deep, v‑shaped, horizontal groove, 40″ X 1 ¼” (102 x 3 cm) long on each section, you get the understated yet sleek style you want.
  • The MODERNO: this door has a thin 3⁄16″ (5 mm), continuous line running the full width of the door. The Moderno comes in two configurations: the 2‑Bead with each section having a line at the top and bottom, and the Multi, with equally spaced lines every 4 or so inches.
  • The GROOVED: in the same vein, this model has a continuous horizontal line, this time 1″‑high (25mm) over the full width of the door. The number of grooves may be either 4 or 5 depending on the height of the door sections.
  • The FLUSH model: for a truly sleek look, the FLUSH has no embossed lines or grooves, just is a light woodgrain finish to give the impression of a wooden door from the 1950s.

Add windows for your own singular touch!

As we said earlier, common features of contemporary‑style houses are large opening to let daylight into the house. Garaga offers you large windows, such as 40″ x 13″ (102 x 32 cm) that can be positioned differently on the garage door sections.
Look through the wide choice of windows and we’re sure you’ll find love at first sight! There are ones with clear glass to those with printed designs; stunning stained glass to glass that is frosted, satin, textured or with horizontal lines.

Does Garaga have all‑glass garage doors?

If you are looking for that modern touch, why not choose fully‑windowed sections, and that means Garaga’s California door. Its frame is made of light but strong extruded aluminum. As well, it has an extensive choice of glass types, from clear, satin, glue chip, and even fluted polycarbonate, to tinted glass in colors ranging from blue and green to gray and bronze.
